Sullivans Cove Winter Feast Tasmanian Single Malt Whisky 2020

$1,625 AUD

50.2% ABV

700 ml

Dark MoFo 2020 might’ve been cancelled due to Covid-19, but that didn’t stop Sullivans Cove from making their annual Winter Feast expression, known locally as ‘The Witch’s Brew’.

It was a chance for the distillery’s Head Distiller, Heather to go a little crazy, making use of the entire Sullivans Cove library to create an extremely limited, bespoke blend of over 500 different cask samples ranging in age from 2 to 20 years. Bottled at 50.2% abv, the resulting liquid is 13 years old on average and heavily influenced by French Oak Apera cask for a rich, meaty and endlessly complex whisky that’s unmistakably Sullivans Cove.  And only 79 bottles were produced

Normally, this limited-edition whisky was only available to purchase in person from the distillery’s Winter Feast bar but, because of the cancellation, the Winter Feast was only made available through an online ballot system, attracting more than 5000 entries.

Producer’s tasting notes.
Nose: Lots of cake and pastry notes with a medley of cooking spices, coconut, caramel, Maltesers, apricot tart and shortbread.
Palate: Bready, nutty, dark chocolate, coconut flesh, vanilla and a very dark treacle that grips through the palate.
Finish: Rose, apple pie, vanilla beans, drinking chocolate and a warm medley of citrus. The meaty, plummy, smoky note of an Aussie Tawny with a hint of brine to carry it home.

Sullivans Cove

Australia’s most awarded distillery and one of the country’s modern whisky distilling pioneers, Sullivans Cove has achieved great success in recent years, including international recognition when their French Oak Single Cask was crowned World’s Best Single Malt in 2014 by the World Whiskies Awards. This, alongside exemplary ratings from Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible, propelled Sullivans Cove into the spotlight, but with limited stock and a long maturation period, their whiskies are highly sought after and very hard to find.
