Tasting notes
Nose: Stewed apricots, nuts, some waxed fruits, more stone fruits (pears & peaches). some nuttiness (almonds, macadamia) then honey. Palate: good mouth-feel, syrupy fruit, some charred notes. Finish: charred nuts and more smoked apricots and sultanas, some slightly charred metal and lingering metallic bitters. Comments: really impressive for a first release and for a malt that is less than 5 years old. (Craig Daniels).

Overeem

Better known by the name of its founder and the product – Overeem – the distillery itself was originally called Old Hobart, although it was far from “old” and was not actually in Hobart but sat alongside the Overeem family home at Blackman’s Bay. Overeem is now in common ownership with Australian Whisky Holdings under Lark, which in part reflects the long-standing friendship and close association between Bill Lark and Casey Overeem. Nevertheless, Overeem retains its own strong following and that will no doubt continue despite the Overeem stills being relocated to the Lark site at Cambridge.

Overeem is an important component in the early history of Tasmanian whisky development and we are delighted to present some seriously significant early Overeems as part of our Tasmanian Historic Collection.  New expressions are also offered for comparison with the “old” Overeems.
