CLAN MUNRO WHISKY LIMITED
Long associated with William Lawson Distillers Limited, in 1953 Clan Munro Whisky Ltd, then owned by Martini & Rossi, acquired the Lawson's trademark and renamed it “William Lawson's” to avoid confusion with the Distillers Company Ltd (DCL) better known blend, “Peter Dawson”.
In 1967 the firm relocated from Liverpool to Coatbridge in Lanarkshire and two years later came the creation of William Lawson Whisky Ltd, with the intention that the new company would take over all Martini & Rossi whisky interests from Clan Munro. That takeover was completed in 1972, with the new company name being amended to William Lawson Distillers.
In 1993, Bacardi acquired Martini & Rossi, which included the William Lawson's brand but by then Clan Munro Whisky Limited and its brands had disappeared.
Apart from a range of whiskies under the “King Edward I” label there was also a “Clan Munro” blend for a while. Both were widely distributed overseas, and particularly in Europe, due to the original Martini and Rossi connection.
