Sullivans Cove 15 Year Old The Exile (Barrel #HH556) Cask Strength Tasmanian Single Malt Whisky - Historic

$1,950 AUD

62% ABV 700ml

This was distilled at the Tasmania Distillery, producers of Sullivans Cove, in 2000 and matured in HH556, a French oak port cask. At 62% ABV, the cask produced 344 bottles. It was named best Australian single malt 13 to 20 years old at the 2016 World Whiskies Awards.

This has been a remarkably popular independently bottled Sullivans Cove expression and this is our very last example.

Tasting notes

Sherry and boiled sweets with hints of fruit, caramel, vanilla and liquorice – a huge nose with strong aromas. The palate is very warming and very alcoholic with sweet caramel flavours and a mouth-coating texture. Water makes it very easy to drink. The long finish hangs around the front of the mouth. Beautiful aromas and flavours with lots of alcoholic warmth. (The Oak Barrel).

Distillery

Sullivans Cove

Australia’s most awarded distillery and one of the country’s modern whisky distilling pioneers, Sullivans Cove has achieved great success in recent years, including international recognition when their French Oak Single Cask was crowned World’s Best Single Malt in 2014 by the World Whiskies Awards. As if that were not enough their American Oak Single Cask was awarded World’s Best Single Cask Single Malt at the World Whiskies awards in 2018.

All this, alongside exemplary ratings from Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible, including the first Australian whisky to achieve “Liquid Gold” status, has propelled Sullivans Cove into the global spotlight, but with limited stock and a long maturation period, their whiskies are highly sought after and very hard to find.
