Overeem Bourbon Cask Matured 43% First Release Tasmanian Single Malt Whisky Presentation with 2 Glasses OHD-055

$1,300 AUD

43% ABV 700ml

This was a limited edition of only 170 bottles, with bottle number 001 selling at a silent auction for $2500. It was Overeem's first Bourbon cask release, from cask no OHD-055, and bottled only a month prior to the Lark, Overeem merger. Accordingly, it is a significant milestone in the distillery’s history and therefore of consequence in Tasmanian whisky lore more generally.

A very small number of those bottles were made up into presentation or gift boxes with matching Glencairn glasses. This has bottle No 44.

There is a certificate of authenticity signed by Casey Overeem.

Tasting notes: Bright gold colour is flawless and pure. Plenty of personality in the aroma as sweet malt integrates with cocoa, vanilla and gobstopper in the initial pass followed by some attractive ester notes in the second phase, in particular white peach, nectarine and hints of banana cake. A light entry follows through to a semi-sweet, silk textured mid palate that’s fruity-yet-dry and balanced by a delicate spicy flourish. The attractive nectarine / banana cake notes return at the fade. Shows excellent length.

Overeem

Better known by the name of its founder and the product – Overeem – the distillery itself was originally called Old Hobart, although it was far from “old” and was not actually in Hobart but sat alongside the Overeem family home at Blackman’s Bay. Overeem was for a short time in common ownership with Australian Whisky Holdings under Lark, which in part reflected the long-standing friendship and close association between Bill Lark and Casey Overeem. However, ownership of the brand was returned to the Overeem family in 2020.

Overeem is an important component in the early history of Tasmanian whisky development and we are delighted to present some seriously significant early Overeems as part of our Tasmanian Historic Collection.
