Glen Ord 28 Years Old Limited Edition Highland Single Malt

$945 AUD

58.3% ABV 70 cl

A rarely seen cask-strength Glen Ord limited edition bottled in 2003, with typical grassy, heathery and barley-sugar notes alongside summer fruits and well-integrated vanilla oak notes. Jim Murray gave it 90 points in his Whisky Bible, calling it 'Blisteringly beautiful'.

This expression predates the various shenanigans, involving what is now Diageo’s second largest malt distillery and one of the few in the northern Highlands, which have gone on over the years when the company struggled with how the distillery and its product should be named and described. The distillery owes its name to its location at Muir of Ord. From its (legal) inception in 1838 until comparatively recently it was simply known as Ord Distillery but originally, in the 19th century, the whisky was known as Glen Oran, then for a number of years simply as Ord 12 Years Old Single Malt when the distillery was licensed to Peter Dawson Limited; thereafter the product was marketed, as one of the Dewar’s range, as Glenordie Single Malt. But the whisky has also been known as Ordie, Muir of Ord and since 2006 as Singleton of Glen Ord which is being promoted heavily in the Asian market.

The site also houses the Glen Ord Maltings which serve Diageo’s Northern malt distilleries and Talisker.
