Sandy Macnab
This was for many years the house brand of Macnab Distilleries Limited of Montose. The company was set up to manage Lochside distillery after it was acquired in 1957 by the whisky entrepreneur, Joseph W. Hobbs. Naturally, much of the Lochside malt found its way into Sandy Macnab.
In November 1973 the company – and the brand – passed into the ownership of DYC of Spain. When the latter was acquired by Allied Distillers in 1992 production at Lochside distillery ceased and the brand was phased out. It was said to have had a high malt content of 35% using 17 or 18 different malts in the blend.
