A superb whisky deserves a superb book and this beautifully written and illustrated work about Ardbeg distillery on Islay is precisely that. It covers the history of Ardbeg, the distilling of the lovely smoky single malt whisky it produces, the people past and present working there as well as all the variations of the released bottles over the years. A bonus is the large number of high-quality photos, many of an historic nature as well as of the many releases. The book captures the essence of Islay and, above all, of Ardbeg itself, warm and welcoming.

Released in May 2008 and now extremely scarce it is a “must have” for any Ardbeg devotee. Ardbeg was closed when I made my visit there in 1985 and Don Raitt, the manager at the time, seemed to despair that it might never re-open. But re-open it did and, as they say, the rest is history which is carefully recorded in this admirable tome.
