The VOH stands for “Very Old Highland”, not a term you would see very often on labels these days. But this is from the 1970’s, as evidenced by the bottle strength and size at, respectively, 70 proof and 26 2/3 fl.ozs, the latter also expressed in metric terms at 75.7 cl. The label is slightly discoloured consistent with age and the fill is to the bottom of the neck.

For many years the “top people’s store” had its own label blended whiskies, often put together by Whyte & MacKay Distillers Ltd. This ceased some years ago and sighting of these bottles has become very rare. They included a 21-year-old blended Scotch packaged in a crystal decanter and, more recently, in a break with tradition, a 12-year-old single malt. There were others.
