Sullivans Cove French Oak Cask Matured Tasmanian Single Malt Whisky bottled 2015

$2,250 AUD

47.5% 700 ml

This Sullivans Cove French Oak Cask Matured whisky from barrel no HH0379 was distilled on 30 July 2000 and bottled more than 14 years later on 4 February 2015. It yielded 484 bottles.

It recalls the fact that just a year earlier Sullivans Cove French Oak Single Cask Tasmanian single malt whisky had famously become a legend in its own right, on winning World’s Best Single Malt at the World Whiskies Awards that year. It became one of the most sought-after whiskies in the world, having put the Australian whisky industry on the map, in a very quiet, unassuming way, reflective of the character of their master distiller, Patrick Maguire.

In order to create Sullivans Cove French Oak Single Cask Single Malt Whisky, the company selected the highest quality 300L French oak Tawny casks (Australian port-style wine), which impart rich flavours of chocolate, dried fruit and powerful oak. Each barrel displays its own special characteristics, producing only a few hundred bottles of this rare quality single malt whisky.

As a single cask bottling, this will subtly differentiate it from the 2014 world champion, but perhaps not by much. After all, it comes from an almost identical cask, at the same ABV but at a fraction of the price!

Sullivans Cove

Australia’s most awarded distillery and one of the country’s modern whisky distilling pioneers, Sullivans Cove has achieved great success in recent years, including international recognition when their French Oak Single Cask was crowned World’s Best Single Malt in 2014 by the World Whiskies Awards. This, alongside exemplary ratings from Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible, propelled Sullivans Cove into the spotlight, but with limited stock and a long maturation period, their whiskies are highly sought after and very hard to find.
