Old Kempton Private Collection Cask No RD 122 First Release ex-Port Cask Strength Tasmanian Single Malt Whisky Special Bottling #5 by MyWhiskyJourneys - Current

$385 AUD

64.2% ABV

500 ml

This is a unique piece of Tasmanian whisky history being the very first cask filled at Old Kempton distillery after production moved to Kempton from the original Redlands Estate at Plenty.

The ex-Port 20 litre private barrel was selected in March 2016 for the exclusive Cratur Whisky Investment Trust immediately after the young and dedicated team of enthusiasts at Redlands Estate had successfully completed the transfer to Kempton. The privilege of owning – and eventually bottling – the first release from Old Kempton Estate was rewarded two and a half years later when, on the advice of the original distiller, Dean Jackson, the cask was decanted and the liquid treasure bottled under the distillery’s Private Collection label on 19 October 2018, some at full cask strength and the balance at 46% ABV to yield a total of 34 bottles - 16 at cask strength and 18 at the lower strength. Here we have the cask strength version.

Each numbered bottle comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by Dean Jackson.

This is the fifth in MyWhiskyJourney’s series of Special Bottlings of Tasmanian whiskies. We shall bring out others from the same source and from some of the other noted Tasmanian distilleries.

This product is located in Australia.

REDLANDS/OLD KEMPTON DISTILLERY

Redlands Estate whisky was originally produced at the actual Redlands Estate at Plenty in the Derwent Valley in southeast Tasmania.

Following a change in ownership in 2015, the whisky production relocated to Dysart House at Kempton with a slight change in name. A further change took place in March 2018 to “Old Kempton” to reflect the distillery’s identity with the local community and to remove confusion with the Redlands Estate in the Derwent Valley.

The current owners of Old Kempton Distillery are ramping up whisky production at Dysart House, where they have also created an attractive visitors centre and tasting room. The convict-built stables at the rear now form the still house.

Bottles of Redlands are still extremely rare but that will change as the spirit matures to a point where the team feel that it is time for new releases to appear, but under the Old Kempton label.
