Killara KD13 ex Tawny Port Tasmanian Single Malt Whisky – Historic

$425 AUD

50% ABV  500 ml

Killara KD13 Single Malt Whisky was matured in a 100 litre ex-Tawny Port barrel and decanted on 2 January 2021, producing only 80 bottles at 50% ABV in 500ml bottles.

The bottling was a special release for the Whisky Lovers Australia group by our great friends at The Whisky List.

MyWhiskyJourneys was fortunate to secure two bottles.  Now sold out at the distillery and The Whisky List, this release is truly historic.

And like an increasing number of Killara releases, it has been recognised internationally - Gold Medal winner at the International Wine and Spirits Competition in London in 2021.

This product is located in Australia.

Killara Distillery

The Lark family tradition of whisky distilling is once more alive and well in Tasmania as Killara is fully owned and operated by Kristy Booth-Lark, a second generation Australian distiller. Moreover, it is the only Australian distillery to be owned and run unaided by a female.

Once Kristy decided to get back into distilling and to open her own distillery, things fell into place fairly quickly.  Still production, gaining the required licences and finding suitable premises all happened within a very short time and she was able to start distilling in early August 2016. Kristy was then living in country NSW and would commute down to Hobart every month to do production. Kristy and  family, however, have since moved back to Hobart permanently to focus on the distillery full time.

Current production is 100L new make whisky spirit per week but is not yet at full capacity. Brandy is also being produced and Kristy is looking at getting a second still installed so as to increase capacity.  Her first releases at 2 years of age sold out immediately. We hope to have future releases on offer here but meantime those wishing to secure their own share of the Killara experience should consider what we presently have available.
